Community Day 3 - Mafambisa

By Jack

(Loading up the Buckie with vegetables and paint)

Please do bless us as we paint

So the wall does not look so faint

As we go on our way

We all pray for a good day

So here is a prayer for you to say

Thank you Lord for being here today.

Today we had breakfast at 8am and then set off to Mafambisa to paint the new shelter.

(The boys were out straight to work painting the outside of the shelter in white)

It needed 2 coats of white paint on the outside before we could paint it blue. The inside had been started already but still needed a number of coats. Some of us (mum and I ) were wearing quite a lot of it.

(1 coat done!)

The men started with the white paint whilst the ladies prepared spinach and beetroot which we had got the day before from the vegetable patches at Sommerset.
The ladies prayed and praised with the care workers and then all of us were painting.

(Spinach and Beetroot chopping of the vegetables we picked up yesterday)

(Everyone mucked in to help - a whole Care Point affair)

By the time the children started arriving it was clear we wouldn’t finish the painting - and we will continue with that on Friday.

(Playing clap with the under 5’s)

(Prayer and Praise with the children)

After lunch of pap, chicken feet, spinach and beetroot we got the parachute out to play some games. The children laughed and shrieked.

(Chicken legs for lunch - yummy!)

Ben and I then sang “Shine” with the children and taught them “Brill, Brill” and “Be Happy” and they picked up the actions quickly.

It was then time to go back to the hub, via pick and pay to pick up some bits for careworkers appreciation day - tomorrow.

Fish and chips for tea before I fell asleep!

(End of Day 1 of painting)

  1. Oh the happiness and joy refle ted in these words and photo's. The singing, dancing and games. The love of preparing a meal. Chicken feet, pap and the beetroot stains. The cleaning of big pots and the wonderful ladies under the shade, what memories!
