Community Day 1 - Mafambisa

 By Carolyn

Today the men went to mens prayer at 7am whist Lucy, Alice and I prepared breakfast. We then had the Monday meeting with all of the Hands at work volunteers and staff which was very uplifting with songs, prayers and notices.

We then set off for Mafambisa , exciting to go to the care point we support. We arrived and there was a new building,  (we will tell you more about that later) which we will help paint later in the week.

(New building at Mafambisa)

We met the Care Workers and some under 5 children and prayed and praised with them.

(We were given a warm welcome by the Under 5’s)

We then split into groups and went out on our holy home visits.

(Walking with the care workers on our first Holy Home Visit)

The first visit we went on was to a young mother whose baby was 4 weeks old. She was 16 and lived with her mother and other siblings. She was eager to go back to school to finish her education.

(Baby “Beautiful” - 1 month old)

(GoGo, L and Baby “Beautiful”)

We asked whether we could help in any way  and the grandmother asked us to collect water which was a short walk away. We collected 6 buckets worth which would last the family a couple of days.

(John collecting water to fill the buckets from a neighbours well)

(These were so heavy - 20 litres of water in each bucket!!!)

We then went onto another family where the eldest daughter looked after her 3 siblings and had 2 children of her own. They had eaten sweet potato for breakfast and didn’t know when their next meal would be so the care workers invited the family to the hub for a meal.

(Family invited back to the Care Point for a meal)

We returned to the hub where Ben and Jack were singing shine, which the children were singing along with.  They had been playing games including football. We then had our first meal in the community of butternut squash and beans.

(Ben and Jack leading Shine for the first time)

(Delicious beans and squash)

It was a great day.

1 Cor 6:17 You have been united with God and are connected to His purposes.
