Today the men went to mens prayer at 7am whist Lucy, Alice and I prepared breakfast. We then had the Monday meeting with all of the Hands at work volunteers and staff which was very uplifting with songs, prayers and notices.
We then set off for Mafambisa , exciting to go to the care point we support. We arrived and there was a new building, (we will tell you more about that later) which we will help paint later in the week.
We met the Care Workers and some under 5 children and prayed and praised with them.
The first visit we went on was to a young mother whose baby was 4 weeks old. She was 16 and lived with her mother and other siblings. She was eager to go back to school to finish her education.
We asked whether we could help in any way and the grandmother asked us to collect water which was a short walk away. We collected 6 buckets worth which would last the family a couple of days.
We then went onto another family where the eldest daughter looked after her 3 siblings and had 2 children of her own. They had eaten sweet potato for breakfast and didn’t know when their next meal would be so the care workers invited the family to the hub for a meal.
We returned to the hub where Ben and Jack were singing shine, which the children were singing along with. They had been playing games including football. We then had our first meal in the community of butternut squash and beans.
It was a great day.
