Today was women’s prayer at 8 o’clock so the women attended that while the men had a lie in and made breakfast (see the other blog for women’s prayer). We then had breakfast together on the veranda.
We were retuning to Mafambisa today - when we got to the Care Point we found out what was for the meal and helped to prepare the Care Point for the children to come after school. We also had a morning check in with the Care Workers and team to see how everyone was doing and how their families were doing.
We had two main activities for the day; Holy Home Visits and the painting of the new toilets. We divided into three groups with two groups going on holy home visits and one group painting. Oliver, Noah and Rachel went with Prudence and Khethiwe with her baby on one of the holy home visits and Adam, Nick and Johanna (a long term volunteer from Germany) went with Eunice and Precious on the other Holy Home visit, whilst Pippa and Alice remained at the Care Point and helped Lonik with the painting of the new toilets.
Pippa and Alice also helped with the vegetable prep for the meal- Alice was very exited for the meal as we were having her favourite, beetroot.
After those who went on a holy home visit returned they helped with the painting alongside the Care Workers who enjoyed the painting a lot.
Once the children started to arrive the whole team were very excited to hear from Toby that his brother Thomas was going to coming to the Care Point after we found out the he was taken to hospital yesterday and was waiting to get his blood results back from the hospital. We were all very exited to see Thomas to check if he was doing ok and he seemed to be good.
Noah, Pippa and Rachel served up the food at the Care Point which was pap, beans and beetroot. After the meal Oliver, Adam and Nick lead the dancing with the children which they all seemed to love with Toby saying he would go up the front and lead the dancing the next time we were there. It was then time to leave Mafambisa and we said our goodbyes and lots of hugs and reminded them that we are returning on Thursday.
Once we returned to the hub we got changed and showered after the painters got a little splattered! We had a little wined down before dinner. For dinner, the hospitality team had prepared fresh rolls and a curried stew which everyone on the team enjoyed. We had an evening debrief with Lonik to discuss about our day and the plan for tomorrow.
We finished the day by watching the Women’s Euro Semi- final with some members of the International Hands Board!

ReplyDeleteThanks Noah another great day at the care point! That paint gets everywhere. I always find it humbling that the care workers get stuck in with any job you put before them, whether it be painting the walls or digging out the toilet pit! Great day - well done all!
